Why is Thanksgiving on a Thursday?

According to history, Thanksgiving Day was declared on Thursday, November 26, 1798, by President George Washington. However, the celebration date changed many times over the following years. To avoid confusion and further date changes, President Abraham Lincoln officially announced the Thanksgiving date to be celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November.
